In the twelfth chapter of Ezekiel God commanded Ezekiel to demonstrate or dramatize the life of a captive in order to show Israel what would soon happen to them if they didn’t alter their ways. God engaged drama as a means of revelation.
Drama engages more of the senses. Too often once a message is preached, the words get lost somewhere between the benediction and the chicken dinner.
Suppose there was a skit attached to the message. The full range of senses are engaged and more people retain the intended revelation much longer.
Jesus used creative parables to get His message across.
Drama and Storytelling have been around for a long time.
The reason for the RLC Drama Ministry is to demonstrate the Word of God through skits and plays, while helping people to see their need for Jesus Christ, a loving, caring all sufficient God.
This ministry links spiritual gifts, professional training, natural skills, and creative abilities together, to make clear the Gospel. It will attract those who desire to understand the Word in a form other than written and verbal. It has been said that people remember: 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, 50% of what they see and hear, 70% of what they say and 90% of what they do and say. I’ve since learned that those statistics may not be quite accurate, but the truth remains that the more senses engaged, the more a person retains.
Drama as a ministry...
It is far more than mere entertainment. It should house the anointing just as any other ministry and should be done with excellence, wholeheartedly to the Glory of God. Without a doubt it should be fun to watch but it should be done with the hearts and souls of the audience and participants in mind.
This ministry's mission will be to add visual aid to the Word of God. Allowing audiences to let down their guard and become more receptive to the Word, causing self-examination through the experiences of the actors in the skit/play. This allows the need to see change without the feeling of condemnation. Lastly, having a drama ministry builds unity among the brethren.
This ministry solicits young and old alike, fellowshipping together while rehearsing and performing. The Drama ministry is in need of more than just actors it needs: Writers, Stage help, prop people, wardrobe, set designers, lighting, makeup and much more. No experience needed! Just be willing to work hard and have fun. This ministry, like other ministries at RLC, is for the Glory of God. We do our best to perfect our craft, while relying on the Holy Spirit to add the anointing.
Does this sound like an area of ministry you'd like to be involved with?
